Oh no, that'll be Mum coming back from riding then ...

P.S. She is still loving it.
Now that I have your attention, I think it's fair to say that it is, in fact, impossible to train a chicken. However, it is certainly quite fun to try, and while you might think that you have actually trained them, you haven't, and they are simply responding to the rattle of the meal worm tub. If you are still interested, read on to find out the exploits of Fried, Baked, Egg and Spoon .... and sometimes my own, with a few comments from the girls.

So was there snow?
As in so much that it meant that Mum could not get the computer? No, she's just been busy! Parents' Evening and getting ready for an inspekshun (another one; different people this time). She has spent time with us though; we have had werms, cheese, catfood, sweetcorn and cabbids. We are pleased that she is maintaining the work/chicken balance.

So we hear there's snow ...
... but not here. Or where Mum works. But about five miles away ... we'd like to experience some snow, because if we do then it means that we would get werms and cheese because Mum probably won't be able to get to work.

Whatever other chickens can do we can do better
So when Mum came out this afternoon to say 'Hi' we were proud to show off the FOUR eggs that we have laid between us over the last two days. So there is no need for you to get eggs from our cousins again, Mum.

Close en-canters of the horse kind
Small steps, that's the way to do it. Cantering today on Prima, without the neck strap or holding onto the saddle! One small thing that makes Mum happy ...
She came back like an alien though - puffy eyes, sniffly nose and a wheezy voice - all she needs is a pair of antennae or a very lumpy head and she would fit the part perfectly. She really needs to sort that out. It's not a good look.

Did Mum paint our eggs?
We looked in the kitchen window today while Mum was eating breakfast and one of them was blue and the other one of them was dark brown. We know that our eggs aren't that colour, so we wonder whether Mum painted ours?

Times are desperate
So much so that I have had to resort to getting eggs from another source to prepare delicious meals with. Luckily they have been lovingly supplied by the Upleadon Massive, the girls' cousins, who live with Auntie Yanna.
In the mix there is a blue egg from the Columbine (top row, right) and a lovely dark brown egg from the Burford (bottom row, middle). The remaining eggs are from Spoon and Egg twinalikes. That one on the bottom row, right is humungous!
I am looking forward to using them!

What greets me in the nestbox
Therefore my menu choices over the next few days is limited. I have one egg from the 16th January, courtesy of Spoon. And that's it. Perhaps I will have more success over the weekend?

Important Visitors
The LEA came to visit Mum today. Well, not her specifically, but where she works, but they did come and see one of her lessons. They even turned the heating on specially.
Then we had an important visit. Mum was organised enough to be visited AND get back in time from work to visit us. Bonus!

Viva Elvis
The latest addition to the family ... purchased by a friend at school (my twin, but then that's another story) who thought the chickens and I might like it; particularly apt considering our recent holiday!
He will be taking pride of place on my desk at work ...

Why we like being chickens 3
Because we don't have to spend the day sorting through paperwork so that we don't become like this cute bear.
That is what Mum has been doing all day, apart from when she came out to give us werms and cheese. There will be a lot of recycling this week ...

Where is the best place to sleep?
If you are a chicken, that is. According to the girls, it is in the nest box. For all three of them. In this space.
Unfortunately it means that all the eggs that they lay get squashed as they sleep on top of them. Since they seem to be spending rather a lot of time in there, I haven't been able to get them out before they squash them.
I did get back in time today to check; three squashed eggs pulled out of the bedding ...

What is the meaning of 'Ms.'?
According to some of my students, it means that you are engaged. When I explained to them that (a) it doesn't actually mean this and (b) I wasn't actually engaged, one of them got out of his seat, dropped down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Needless to say, I had to let him down gently, but it was a nice thought ..... he then offered his dad as an alternative. Two marriage proposals in one day isn't a bad record, and it's not even Valentine's Day!
Oh, I had to turn the second offer down too. Apart from not knowing the man, he is still apparently married to said student's step-mum ....

Formula 1 Riding
Today Mum went riding again after her holiday break. She was riding a new horse, and had a different instructor because her normal one was on holiday skiing. She was riding Jenson ... who is now her favourite horse; sorry Bella!
She is enjoying developing her cantering ... the change to Monday night also is a great start to the week.
She did come to see us before she went out to tuck us into bed. She says that she will come back from work in time to see us in the garden tomorrow. Worms when you do please, Mum!

What happens when you don't look where you are going?
Mum. Morning. Shower. Which has a door on it. This door slides to one side. But if you don't check your footwork, or don't open the door fully, this is the result ...
No comments about her wrinkly feet please. She has just had a birthday recently and is very old, after all.
Fried, Egg and Spoon xxx
P.S. This is why we have a real advantage by not having to wear shoes. If we did bruise our feet in the shower (if we took a shower) we wouldn't then have to force them into shoes accompanied by various expressions of pain. Like Mum did this afternoon when she put her shoes on so she could come outside and clean our house and the garden.
Mum has been working hard ...
... building a house. She is very proud. It took her three hours. Unfortunately it is too small for us to live in. But it is very nice. Dad made a good choice getting it for her birthday.

If chickens could fly ...
... we would like to fly as high as this helicopter over the Grand Canyon. Mum and Dad went there on Mum's birthday; we would have liked to have gone too but we were already on holiday.
The only problem might be the cacti; they are a bit dry and prickly to eat ...

We wanted to practise our dance routine today
... but we couldn't because the table that we usually practise on, and use to jump onto the fence with, had blown over in the wind. Mum did pick it up when she came home, but it was a bit late then, because it was bedtime. We will have to wait until tomorrow now to perfect our routine.

Do chickens get jet-lag?
It's a long way from where we go on holiday to our house. We are sure it is in a different time zone. We have been very tired today; we stayed in bed very late and went to bed early. We know that Mum would have liked to have done the same, but she had to go to work. Shame ....

We're back!
Mum came to pick us up today straight from the airport. Luckily there was still room for her to put us in the car with all the Las Vegas goodies she bought back with her. It is nice to be home in our garden; we have already messed it up.
